BEFORE
Originally part of the historical fruit canning and distribution, the neighborhood of old warehouses had become largely abandoned except for a growing number of local artists. In 2003, the City of San Jose, hoping to spur development and preserve the organic growth of the small arts community, created a plan for the newly designated Martha Garden's neighborhood.
AFTER
Brickyard is one of the first new housing projects in the area. Recognizing that the Martha Garden's plan lacked needed amenities, the design of the Brickyard incorporated a landscaped courtyard that facilitated internal community interaction. Improvements included construction of a heated outdoor pool, outdoor barbecue area, shared lawns with fountain, a 20-person spa, fitness room with juice-bar, billiards/game room, and a fully wi-fi enabled business center. Though new to the area, AGI was able to communicate the vision of Martha Garden's future to new homebuyers, resulting in a virtual sell-out of the 176 units in less than six months. The success of the Brickyard has resulted in plans to build out the shops, artist's lofts and other amenities in the Martha Garden's plan.
